The Montblanc Meisterstck UNICEF Dou Platinum Classique fountain pen is the result of an ambitious partnership with UNICEF, the goal of which is to bring attention and support to the cause of world literacy. The contrasting cap, emblematic of the Dou line, is inscribed with lettering inspired by the Rosetta stone - the discovery of which provided the necessary translations to decode previously indecipherable ancient languages and fundamentally reshaped our understanding of language.
Inspired by the Rosetta stone and its multilingual inscription, the UNICEF Dou symbolizes a worldwide connection with 6 specific, individual characters incorporated into the design. The characters rendered in the style of handwriting are the first letters schoolchildren learn to write transcribed in six different world languages: Latin, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Hindi.
The cap ring features a precious 1.3 mm sky-blue sapphire as a symbol of the partnership with UNICEF. The barrel is crafted from precious resin and adorned with platinum-coated trim, as well as a platinum-coated 18k gold nib.
All of these are brought together in a seamless design to emphasize the precious gift of writing. For every piece in the Montblanc for UNICEF Collection sold between April 1, 2017 and March 31, 2018, Montblanc dedicated a portion of its proceeds in support of UNICEF and its literacy efforts, with a minimum amount of $1.5 million guaranteed by Montblanc.
